If you are studying on a pre-registration undergraduate or postgraduate healthcare course which leads to professional registration in one of the subjects listed below, you may be able to apply for additional help from the Learning Support Fund (LSF):

  • Nursing (adult, child, mental health, learning disability, joint nursing/social work. New joint Nursing/Paramedicine also attract funding from September 2020)
     
  • Midwifery
     
  • Dietetics
     
  • Dental Therapy / Dental Hygiene* (level 5 and 6 courses as of September 2020)
     
  • Occupational therapy
     
  • Orthoptics
     
  • Orthotics and prosthetics
     
  • Physiotherapy
     
  • Podiatry/Chiropody
     
  • Radiography (diagnostic and therapeutic; also known as Diagnostic Imaging)
     
  • Speech and Language Therapy (also known as Language Pathology)
     
  • Operating department practitioner (including DipHE) (level 5 and 6 courses as of September 2020)
     
  • Paramedicine (new courses as of September 2020)
     

Students on undergraduate programmes may be eligible to apply to the Learning Support Fund (LSF) if their course started on or after 1 August 2017

Students on postgraduate programmes may be eligible for LSF if their course started on or after 1 August 2018.

*Students on Dental Therapy (DT) or Dental Hygiene (DH) courses:

DT and DH Students who started their course between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2018: you will only be eligible for LSF funding if you are attending one of the following universities:

  • University of Central Lancashire

  • University of Manchester

  • University of Plymouth

  • University of Teesside (only certain cohorts are eligible to apply to the Learning Support Fund, please speak to your university in the first instance)


DT and DH students who started their course between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2019: you are eligible to apply to the Learning Support Fund unless your course is run by one of the following universities:

  • The University of Birmingham (in partnership with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS)

  • Bristol Dental School

  • The UCL Eastman Dental Institute

  • The Greater Manchester School for Dental Care Professionals

  • King's College London


DT and DH students who started their course on or after 1 September 2020: courses include DipHE and extends to all universities.
