If you've not received your bursary payment, you must:

Check you've added your bank details to your bursary account if it's your first payment

When your application was approved, you were sent an email asking you to input your bank details.

Check your junk mail folder if you cannot find this email.

Once you've added your details to your account, we can process your payment.

Contact your bank or building society

If you've looked for your bursary payment using an ATM, you must contact your bank or building society as the bursary payment does not always show immediately at the ATM even though it's been paid.

Check the 'Payment Schedule' page on your account

If there's no date next to the payment in question, it's not yet been released.

This advice cannot be followed for an expected 'Underpayment' amount as the date shown will not be accurate. You must allow 10 working days from the date the 'Underpayment' first appeared in your Payment Schedule to receive this money.

Check bank details are correct

You can view part of the bank account details you've supplied on the student details page of your account once your application has been approved.

If they're incorrect, you must amend them using the 'Update Bank Details' section.

If your account details were incorrect, follow the guidance for:

  • details were for an old account or only the account number was incorrect
  • sort code was incorrect

You must contact your bank advising them of the account details used for the payment and the amount, to ask what will happen to the money.

If the payment is being returned to us, we'll release this money to you again once we receive and process it, assuming you've already updated your bank details.

This process can take several weeks depending on how long it takes for the payment to be returned.

If your bank informs you the payment cannot be returned due the incorrect account number you entered belonging to someone else, you must contact us. We cannot advise if this money can be retrieved in order for us to release it again but we may be able to investigate further.

Sort code was incorrect

The payment will be returned to us and we'll release this money to you again once we receive and process it, assuming you've already updated your bank details.

This process can take several weeks depending on how long it takes for the payment to be returned.
