You can claim a refund of your PPC if you become entitled to free NHS prescriptions.

Refunds must be claimed within 3 months of becoming entitled.

Refunds can only be claimed if you became entitled either:

  • in the first month of a 3-month PPC
  • before the last month of a 12-month PPC

Qualifying benefit or War Pension

If you receive a qualifying benefit or have a War Pension, you must send us a copy of your benefit award letter or certificate:

If the qualifying benefit is Universal Credit (UC), we must see your award notices covering the 4 most recent assessment periods. If it's a new claim and you do not have 4 award notices, you must send in all you have. You should send these to us as a PDF which can be downloaded from your Universal Credit account within the payment section.

Paper PPC's must be destroyed.

Exemptions

If you have a valid exemption, contact our helpdesk to claim the refund.

Exemptions include:

  • NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
  • HC2 certificate
  • Maternity Exemption Certificate
  • Medical Exemption Certificate
  • being aged 60 or over

Full-time education

If you're aged 16, 17, or 18 and have returned to full-time education, you must send us a covering letter with evidence of your course.

Paper PPC's must be destroyed.
