OOHs providers are organisations that are employing authorities and provide General Practitioner (GP) OOH cover outside of normal practice hours.

Non-GP

Non-GP salaried staff employed by an OOH provider have the same NHS Pension Scheme rights as GP practice staff.

The OOHs provider is responsible for collecting the employee contributions and forwarding these along with their employer contributions to us on time.

GP

If the OOHs provider employs a GP, they're a Type 2 Medical Practitioner.

The employing authority (EA) is:

  • NHS England or Primary Care Services England (PCSE) in England
  • Local Health Board in Wales

The OOHs provider is responsible for collecting and forwarding all contributions to the EA.

An OOHs provider must never send pension forms or contributions for a GP directly to us. The GP must use the GP SOLO form.

If a GP is a Scheme member, they cannot opt out of pensioning their OOH income.

OOHs providers must use the GPs total NHS practitioner pensionable income to determine the contribution tier when collecting employee contributions.
