If your employee has multiple jobs but they’re on the same pay band, they can pension up to their Notional Whole Time (NWT) equivalent.

If your employee has 2 part-time posts with you on the same rate of pay, they pay pension contributions on the pay they receive up to their whole time rate of hours. Their pensionable pay and contributions tier is based on this combined pay. If both posts are on separate pay bands, we use their higher rate of pay when calculating whole time pensionable pay.

If your employee has more than one part-time post with different employers, pay for each post is provided to us separately and pensionable up to whole time. Their contributions tiers are based on each separate employment. They may pay a higher percentage of contributions for one or more post if they're on a higher pay band for one or more post. We'll use their higher rate of pay when calculating whole time pensionable pay.

If you can calculate composite pay figures, record the composite TPP and NWT pay for the last 3 years on Pensions Online (POL) or an AW8 retirement benefits claim form.

Email polia3@nhsbsa.nhs.uk to tell us you’ve calculated the composite pay figure.

If the employments are with separate employers or you cannot calculate the composite pay figures, you must record the TPP and NWT figures on POL or an AW8 form.

Email polia3@nhsbsa.nhs.uk to tell us which figures have been used and we will calculate the composite TPP. We'll use the highest rate of pay employment when we calculate NWT. We may request further information from the relevant employers to do this.

2008 Section benefits are worked out using a reckonable pay figure. We’ll do this calculation at the point of retirement. You must record the TPP and NWT figures on POL or an AW8 form.
