If you need a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate that's been registered in England or Wales, you can order a copy from the General Register Office.
For events registered within the last 6 months or 18 months for marriages, applications for duplicate certificates must be made to the register office in the district where the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place.
If you need a copy of a Decree Absolute, Final Order or dissolution of a civil partnership, contact the court where the divorce or dissolution was granted.
If you do not know which court to ask, ask the Central Family Court to search for the Decree Absolute or dissolution order.
