A limited adult dependant's pension is a short-term pension paid when a member has less than 2 years membership and dies while in service before their Normal Pension Age (NPA).
This is paid for 6 months to a surviving spouse, civil partner or qualifying Scheme partner.
There’s no entitlement to a long-term adult dependant’s pension.
If a member dies in service after reaching their NPA, the spouse is also paid a continuing pension.
This is equal to:
- 33.75% for the 2015 Scheme
- 37.5% for the 2008 Scheme
- 50% for the 1995 Scheme
1995 Scheme benefits may be variable dependent on when the marriage took place. These percentages are applied to the pension that would have been payable if the member had retired on the day they died.
If a member has been accepted for an Additional Pension application to cover dependents, the rate is 37.5%.
