SSP is an extra £1,000 per academic year on top of the Training Grant for eligible students studying:

  • mental health nursing

  • learning disability nursing

  • radiography (diagnostic and therapeutic)

  • prosthetics and orthotics

  • orthoptics and podiatry

If you are on a combined course which includes one of these subjects, for example, adult and mental health nursing, you can get SSP.

You must have started year one of your course on or after 1 September 2020 to qualify for SSP.

If you are attending your course on a part-time basis, you will receive the SSP pro rata of the full-time amount, depending on your attendance pattern.

If you are eligible for SSP it will be added to your NHS Learning Support Fund (NHS LSF) account when we assess your Training Grant application.
