An RSS shows you 2 sets of figures for the value of your pension benefits to date with your membership for the remedy period, 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2022, in the 1995/2008 Scheme or 2015 Scheme.

Visit our website to check when you're likely to receive your RSS

If you retire before you receive your first RSS, we'll give you this information as part of your retirement application process.

Our website includes more information with a video walkthrough to help you understand your options.

If you have more complex circumstances and you need support to decide which option is right for you, you can speak to an independent financial adviser. You may be able to apply to have the cost of this advice repaid to you through the NHS Cost Claim Back Scheme.

If you've already claimed your pension

The lump sum figures in your choice letter assume you’d make the same lump sum decision as when you claimed your pension.

You may be able to take a different lump sum to the one shown in the ‘personalised decision guide’ of your choice letter.

If you’d like to request a different lump sum amount, email us at nhspensionsrss@nhsbsa.nhs.uk.

Further information on revisiting your lump sum choice is available on our website.

Making your decision

You have up to 12 months from when you receive your choice letter to make your decision.

The figures included in your pack are accurate as of the date of the letter but may change the longer you take to tell us your decision.

We'll update your pension within 30 days of receiving your choice and write to you about your updated benefits and any helpful information you may need for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

If you think your RSS is incorrect

Your statement is based on information we hold from your employers. If you think your statement is incorrect, check with your employer that they’ve shared your correct information with NHS Pensions.
