This depends if you’ve been allocated a capped bursary place or not.
All bursary payments are paid directly into your bank or building society account by Bacs (Banker Automated Clearing System).
The payments will appear on your bank statement with the description 'NHSBSA SWB'.
The account you use must be:
- in your own name, or a joint account that includes your name as an account holder
- a UK based bank or building society account
- able to accept direct credits
We cannot pay your bursary:
- into an account in another person’s name, even with your permission
- by any other method, such as cash, cheque, or to a prepaid card account
If you're not allocated a capped bursary place
If you’re eligible for Placement Travel Allowance (PTA) it will be paid in one instalment for the whole academic year.
If your award was assessed before you started your academic year, it will be paid within 10 working days of us receiving confirmation of your course attendance from your university.
If you applied after you started your course, your first instalment will be paid within 10 working days of the date on your Notification of Award (NOA).
If you're allocated a capped bursary place
Your full award will be split into three instalments and paid each term.
If you’re a postgraduate student and awarded any of the income assessed elements, they're usually paid at the same time as your termly payments, except for Childcare Allowance.
If your award was assessed before you started your academic year, your first instalment will be paid within 10 working days of us receiving both confirmation of your course attendance and that you've been allocated a capped bursary place.
If your award was assessed after you started your academic year, your first instalment will be paid within 10 working days of the date on your Notification of Award (NOA). This is if we’ve received both confirmation of your course attendance and that you've been allocated a capped bursary place.
If you're a postgraduate course student your third instalment will be held until we receive and process evidence from you of the estimated income you declared on your application.
Your NOA will advise you of this and what evidence we need.
