Follow the guidance for:
Sight test
You're entitled to receive free NHS-funded sight tests in England if you’re:
- under 16 years of age
- aged 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
- aged 60 or over
- a diagnosed glaucoma patient
- at risk of glaucoma, as advised by an ophthalmologist
- aged 40 or over and the parent, sibling or child of a diagnosed glaucoma patient
- diagnosed as diabetic
- registered as severely sight impaired, blind or sight impaired or partially sighted
- receiving a sight test in a hospital eye department as part of the management of your eye condition
- named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate
- named on, or entitled to, a valid NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
- named on, or are included in an award of someone getting a qualifying benefit or exemption
You may also be entitled to receive a free NHS-funded sight test if you need complex lenses.
Glasses or contact lenses
You're entitled to receive help towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses if at the time of your appointment you're:
- under 16 years of age
- 16, 17 or 18 years of age and in full-time education
- named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate
- named on, or entitled to, a valid NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
- named on, or are included in an award of someone getting a qualifying benefit or exemption
